Mozart's Sonata in A major "for clavier solo", with the famous finale "Alla Turca", published in 1784, is one of the most popular works in all piano literature. Following the rediscovery of parts of the lost autograph several years ago, another important source emerged: the appearance of a previously unknown modern copy of the entire autograph, prompting Bärenreiter to update the previous Urtext edition of this famous work. The copy made by a professional Viennese copyist sheds new light on the problem of numerous discrepancies between autographs and the first editions of many Mozart sonatas. This confirms the assumption that the revision of the text to the first edition resulted from a change in the target group from Mozart's circle to an audience of connoisseurs and amateurs, but this did not result in the obsolescence of the original text (autograph); rather, both versions of the sonata represent historical realities. To achieve a truly faithful scientific-critical performance edition of a Mozart sonata, editor Mario Aschauer has set new editorial standards and offers the most innovative methodological approach of our time, presenting the musical texts of the autograph and the original print separately, without editorially combining the sources into the new text. Based on the newly discovered source, for the first time it is possible to reconstruct the autograph of this famous sonata and offer it to the performer as an independent, playable version. The preface allows for a surprising new look at the form and source situation of the sonata (German). The edition is complemented by a chapter on performance practice, containing detailed information on piano playing in Mozart's time (German/Eng.).
